ECA workshop on ODS disposal & destruction, Tbilisi, Georgia, 14 April 2006

The workshop on ODS disposal & destruction was held on 14 April 2006 in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was preceded by the Fifth Meeting of the Regional Ozone Network for Europe and Central Asia (ECA network) from 11 to 13 April 2006.

Both activities were funded by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and organised by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia and the UNEP DTIE OzonAction Programme.

The main objective of the workshop on ODS disposal & destruction was:

- Inform on findings of recent workshops related to the subject area
- Inform on ODS waste management in selected countries
- Inform the establishment and operation of cross-border schemes for collection, transport and destruction of chemical waste
- Inform on provisions of the Basel Convention concerning the cross-border transport of chemicals
- Inform on disposal and destruction strategies of different chemical conventions
- Inform on cost and economy of collection, transport and destruction of chemical

Beside the representatives of the ECA network countries (Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Turkmenistan), the Ozone Officers from GEF-funded CEIT countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), representatives of the secretariats (Multilateral Fund Secretariat, Ozone Secretariat), implementing agencies (UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, World Bank), bilateral agencies (Hungary, Sweden) and additional resource persons participated.
