Side event of ECA network during Environment for Europe conference, Serbia, 10-12 October 2007

The Regional Ozone Network of Europe & Central Asia (ECA network) requested UNEP in cooperation with UN Economic Comission for Europe and the Government of Serbia to organize a side event “20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol: Contribution to Climate Change mitigation and to preventing environmental crime” during the Environment for Europe conference in Belgrade, Serbia, 10-12 October 2007.

The objective of the side event was to raise awareness on the contribution of the Montreal Protocol to climate change mitigation and inter-linkages between the Montreal and Kyoto Protocol and its contribution to the prevention of environmental crime including illegal trade in ozone-depleting substances.

It took place on Thursday, 11 October 2007, 13:00-14:00 and was faciliated by:

During a separate event on 10 October 2007, 15:00-16:00, at the joint UNDP/UNEP stand, the audience was informed on the 20th Anniversary of the Montreal Protocol and the ECA network brochure "Solidary & Partnerships" was re-launched by:

Hon. Assistant Minister Djordje Jovanovic of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Serbia.

The exhibition stand of UNEP's Regional Network of Ozone Officer in Europe & Central Asia displayed publications and posters related to the side event “20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol: Contribution to Climate Change mitigation and to preventing environmental crime” as well as publications of the Basel Convention Secretariat. In total, 300 copies of the ECA network brochure "Solidarity & Partnerships" have been disseminated.
